It’s The Journey, Inc., Producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer,
Announces Recipients of its 2018 Grants

It’s The Journey, Inc. – producer of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer – is a local organization founded 15 years ago by a breast cancer survivor, Randi Passoff.  When the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk pulled out of Atlanta in 2002, Randi, a long time walker, decided that Atlanta needed a fundraising event wherein all of the funds stayed local to support Georgia breast cancer patients and breast health programs.

ATLANTA, , March 5, 2018— Lighthouse Lymphedema Network was awarded a grant in the amount of $15,000 by It’s The Journey, Inc., producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The grant will fund Compression for the Cause reaching breast cancer survivors throughout Georgia. This grant is one of 27 grants awarded by It’s The Journey this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia. Attending the It’s the Journey dinner and presentation of grants was Janie  and Charlotte Murphy.  During the evening It’s the Journey also gave additional grant monies to recipients who were chosen by the top 2 Day Walk teams.  The winner of the 2017 Randi Passoff Spirit Award, Jenn Nott from Cincinatti, OH was given the opportunity to award an additional $5,000 in grant funds.  We are proud and honored to say that she chose the Lighthouse Lymphedema Network to receive those funds.

“We are privileged to facilitate the increased reach of these incredibly impactful breast health organizations,” said Kimberly Goff, Executive Director of It’s The Journey. “Their efforts extend across the entire state, reaching over 16,000 Georgians in need of breast health services in over 100 counties. We are proud that our grants remain focused on local needs and impact the lives of Georgians, providing crucial access to services ranging from clinical breast exams, screening mammograms, diagnostics, genetic counseling and testing, to direct financial assistance”

“This grant allows the LLN to provide survivors who develop lymphedema the necessary compression bandages and garments to control and maintain their lymphedema” said Deb Cozzone, Director of the Bandages and Garments Fund. “It’s The Journey has been a steadfast supporter of Compression for the Cause for the past 4 grant cycles and we are thrilled to begin our fifth year of partnership with them. Funding from It’s The Journey is a major factor in our success and has allowed us to reach farther across Georgia every year, doubling the number of counties served in the past 4 years.”

In 15 years, the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer (formerly the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer) has raised $14 million to fund 335 grants that provide breast cancer education, screening, early detection, support services, and continuing care for Georgians.  For a complete listing of the 2018 grant recipients and descriptions of their programs, visit 2018 Grantees.
